Hières-sur-Amby is a sight worthy village, bordered by the Rhone River and the plateau Isle Cremieu, located 35 km East of Lyons. Habitation goes back to the Neolithic period and has provided the archaeological site of Larina, 20 ha which furnished the village museum with numerous pieces, some found nowhere else in Europe.
Hières-sur-Amby consists of five hamlets: Village, Le Moulin d'Avaux, Marignieu, Saint-Etienne d'Hières, and Bourcieu. It contains a recreation area - football field, boule, and camping sites - an activity area, a shopping area, and a cultural area. Inhabitants of Hières, named Hièrois, number 1200 and are involved in about twenty associations devoted to camaraderie, culture, leisure and sports activities.
Museum. Legacy.
The Museum houses permanent as well as temporary exhibitions showcasing archaeologies from Isle Crémieu. It displays unique pieces, such as a Celtic Prince's grave with his iron knife and remains of a char found in the next commune of Verna.
The museum was totally renewed and opened in May 2010.
